When Cargo Shifts: How FleetEasy Safely Recovered and Reloaded a Restaurant Supply Trailer
Load shifts happen. Sudden braking, evasive maneuvers, rough roads, or improperly balanced freight can cause cargo to move inside a trailer, creating safety hazards and delaying deliveries. When that happens, having an experienced cargo recovery team is vital.
FleetEasy recently responded to a load shift involving a trailer carrying products from a popular Latin and Hispanic food distributor. Rather than attempting an unsafe roadside correction, our team developed a plan that prioritized safety, protected the cargo, and helped the driver get back on the road as quickly as possible.
Bringing the Trailer to a Safe Work Environment
After receiving the call, a FleetEasy operator contacted the driver, confirmed the situation, and inspected the trailer. Because the cargo required significant reorganization and rain was creating poor working conditions, the safest solution was to bring the trailer to FleetEasy's Auburn facility rather than perform the recovery roadside.
The driver was directed to our shop, but unfamiliar roads created another challenge. When the driver became lost, our operator located the truck, guided it back to the facility, and ensured it arrived safely without additional delays.
Careful Unloading and Pallet Reconstruction
Once inside the shop and protected from the weather, the recovery work began. The trailer was completely unloaded to allow technicians to inspect the freight and identify which pallets had been compromised. Out of 30 pallets, 18 required complete restacking.

The FleetEasy team carefully reorganized individual boxes, rebuilt unstable pallets, and secured each load with stretch wrap before reloading the trailer. Every pallet was stabilized to reduce the risk of another shift during transport.
Attention to detail matters during load recovery. Proper weight distribution and secure pallet construction help protect both the cargo and everyone sharing the road.
Reloading for a Safe Journey
Once every pallet had been rebuilt, the trailer was reloaded using the customer's preferred securement method, including replacing the cargo straps in their original locations. After the trailer was fully loaded, our operator personally guided the driver back to State Route 18, ensuring they returned to the highway safely and could continue the delivery.

Reducing Downtime While Protecting Valuable Cargo
For businesses that depend on timely deliveries, every hour matters. Restaurant supply chains, grocery distributors, manufacturers, and commercial fleets all rely on cargo arriving safely and on schedule.
A poorly handled load shift can result in damaged products, rejected deliveries, insurance claims, additional transportation costs, and extended downtime. That ultimately costs the business money and can damage their reputation with their customers.
FleetEasy's experienced recovery team focuses on minimizing those disruptions. By combining safe handling practices, efficient unloading and reloading, and clear communication throughout the process, we help customers protect both their freight and their schedules.
Experience You Can Count On
Load shift recovery requires experience, careful planning, and a commitment to doing the job safely. From roadside assistance to complete cargo recovery and reload services, our team is ready to help fleets overcome unexpected challenges and get back on the road and back in business.
