A customer called asking for a cargo load transfer in Auburn. They had a loaded trailer with severely damaged landing gear that needed repairs. They couldn’t unload it on site because the trailer was unstable. They needed the contents of the trailer transloaded into a sturdy trailer, but the customer couldn’t have the work done on their lot. They requested that Pro-Tow by FleetEasy tow it to our secure yard and complete the cargo transfer there.
Towing and Cargo Load Transfer in Auburn by Pro-Tow
We towed the damaged trailer back to our location and unloaded the cargo into our facility. Once the customer delivered their new, undamaged trailer, we could start the transload. Carefully, our crew loaded the cargo into the new trailer, ensuring it was balanced and secured properly for transport.

Trailer Repair by Motorplex
Once the cargo load transfer was complete, our Motorplex team inspected the damaged landing gear on the trailer. We found that both landing gear legs were broken, and the K-brace and undermount support were badly damaged. In addition, we found structural damage on the trailer floor and a few crossmembers.
We recommended that the customer replace all the damaged landing gear components. We also needed to remove, re-weld, and replace at least five crossmembers, and re-weld landing gear legs, supports and braces. Once this work was complete, the trailer could be put back into service.

Safe and Efficient Cargo Load Transfer
To reload cargo safely, you need careful planning, the right equipment, and an experienced, knowledgeable crew. We make sure every load is balanced and secured properly, so the trailer stays stable during transport.
Load Balancing and Securing Checklist for a Dry-Van Trailer
Load Distribution:
-
- Place heavier items on the bottom and lighter items on top.
- Center the weight evenly from side to side to prevent trailer sway.
- Distribute weight evenly from front to back; avoid overloading axles.
- Keep the center of gravity as low as possible for stability.
Securing Cargo:
-
- Use straps, ratchets, and tie-downs to secure all palletized or loose items.
- Apply load bars, cargo nets, or shoring beams if necessary to prevent shifting.
- Check that pallets or crates cannot slide or tip when the trailer moves.
Trailer Preparation:
-
- Inspect the floor for weak spots or damage before loading.
- Verify that walls, rails, and anchor points are in good condition.
- Make sure the trailer doors close and lock securely without forcing cargo.
Final Checks:
-
- Walk the trailer to double-check straps, bars, and placement.
- Shake or push cargo gently to test stability before transport.
- Confirm total weight doesn’t exceed trailer or axle limits.
- Document load placement and securing for safety compliance.
