Transload service Washington State

When people think about towing and recovery, they often picture broken-down trucks or accident scenes. But many of the same skills, equipment, and experienced operators used in heavy recovery work are also essential for specialized cargo moves.

Recently, the Pro-Tow by FleetEasy team completed a container transload and delivery project involving a 12,000-pound shipping container. It needed to be transferred between trailers and delivered to a challenging final destination.

In this article, we’ll share more about that job. First, we’ll talk about transload services and why they’re important for commercial fleets in the logistics sector.

What is a Container Transload?

A transload is the process of transferring cargo from one piece of transportation equipment to another before it reaches its final destination. So, when we put a shipping container on a flatbed trailer for transport, and then remove it and put it on another trailer at our destination, that is a transload.

Businesses often require transload services when:

    • Delivery sites have limited access
    • Specialized equipment is needed for final placement
    • Cargo must be transferred between trailers
    • Freight arrives on equipment that cannot access the destination
    • Construction sites, industrial facilities, or remote locations require alternative delivery methods

In this case, a 12,000-pound container was initially transported on a Landoll trailer from our secured yard, where it was dropped off, then transferred to a flatbed for final delivery. The Landoll wouldn’t have made it to the final destination!

Here we are at our FleetEasy Auburn location, getting ready for the multi-fauceted transload job!

The Challenge: Multiple Moves and a Difficult Delivery Location

As mentioned, the FleetEasy team was dispatched to move the container from our storage yard, then to a staging area, and finally to its final destination.

Several pieces of equipment and operators were involved in the project to ensure everything was handled safely. Upon arrival at the staging area, the crew carefully transferred the container from the Landoll trailer onto a flatbed truck.

In the photo above, we are transferring the container from the Landoll onto a flatbed that can actually make it down the very steep hill to its final destination. Once loaded, the container was properly secured for transport before the team continued toward the delivery site.

While moving the container was straightforward, accessing the final location required additional planning and skilled maneuvering. The route included a steep hill and limited access, requiring the operator to carefully back the truck down the hill before the container could be unloaded.

Safe Container Placement Requires Specialized Equipment

Arriving at the destination was only part of the job! Once the flatbed was positioned, the crew removed all transport securements and prepared the recovery equipment needed for the lift.

Using a crane-equipped recovery unit, the team completed rigging, carefully lifted the heavy container from the flatbed, and placed it directly on the ground at the customer’s requested location. Every step of the process required precise communication between operators to ensure the container remained stable throughout the lift and placement.

The drop of area was right next to a rushing river, and it was a beautiful, sunny, blue-sky day. It was a stunning setting in which to work, and a pleasure to deliver this container to our happy customers.
