When heavy equipment breaks down or tips over, it can bring an entire job site to a halt. We understand that equipment downtime can cost money, delay projects, and pose risks to your operators and employees. Unfortunately, all these things can negatively impact your business and its reputation for reliability.

FleetEasy offers complete fleet services, including fast equipment recovery and repair services, like in the story we’ll tell below. A while back, we responded to a call to help a heavy-duty excavator that had tipped over on a job site on Badger Lake Road near Spokane. Here’s how we handled the job.

Equipment Recovery on Badger Lake Road

Equipment Recovery for a flipped excavator near Spokane

Tipped over excavator needs our help!

Upon arrival, our operator with Pro-Tow by FleetEasy found the flipped-over excavator off-road, on its side, and not looking good! The ground in the area was soft, which could pose a challenge when putting pressure on the earth while lifting something so heavy.

Fortunately, we learned that the customer had prepared a rigging platform to stabilize the recovery area. Using this as a base, the operator brought in our heavy-duty rotating crane-style wrecker, which is the best tool for safely lifting and repositioning large machinery.

Precise Rigging Calculations Required

Before any lifting began, the operator performed detailed rigging calculations to ensure the recovery could be done safely and efficiently. Rigging calculations determine the right angles, weights, and connection points to balance the load. Getting these numbers right is critical. An incorrect calculation can lead to equipment damage, shifting loads, or serious injury.

Unflipping the Flipped Excavator

With safety verified, the operator installed a 6-point rigging system using specialty chains and straps designed to handle the excavator’s weight and dimensions. Working slowly and deliberately, the team lifted the machine upright onto a soft surface, ensuring both the excavator and the surrounding site remained stable. Within a short time, the recovery was complete and the customer could get back to work.
