Serving Washington State with comprehensive fleet services.

Fleet managers know that downtime costs fleets both time and money. That’s why FleetEasy and our network of fleet service providers offer quick, professional on-site fleet repairs across Washington State. Recently, we responded to a service call for a transport trailer with a malfunctioning side lift gate.

Our technician arrived on scene in the early morning hours to investigate the issue and get to work.

Troubleshooting the Lift Gate

On-site fleet repairs

The repair began with a full inspection of the system, including batteries, wiring, and hydraulics. “I inspected the batteries initially along with other wiring nearby; all seemed okay, and the voltage was also good,” the technician reported. From there, he checked the hydraulic cylinders and fluid reservoir.

“One of the cylinders had some leakage around it at some point or another. I inspected the fluid level at the reservoir and found it to be significantly low. So, I added proper hydraulic fluid to the tank and re-tried the operation. The results were somewhat the same, but did go up a bit better.”

Even with additional hydraulic fluid, it was clear that there was a deeper problem. The technician also noticed there was fluid coming from the motor and reservoir area, but couldn’t quite pinpoint exactly where it was coming from. All of the hoses appeared to be in decent shape, so they suspected the reservoir might have a small crack on its sides or bottom.

When On-Site Fleet Repairs Lead to In-Shop Service

Our goal is always to fix vehicles and equipment on-site so our customers can get back to work. In this case, the trailer’s lift gate worked somewhat better after fluid was added, but it still struggled with pallet weight. That meant the best next step was scheduling a more extensive in-shop repair.

“There was nothing more I could do there, as further in-shop repairs were recommended. The driver was thankful for what I could do and for the service provided in the early morning hours,” said our technician.
